Administrative Team

Joseph R. Poletti

For 32 years my jobs have included teacher, instructional technology facilitator, state department consultant, university program administrator, athletic director, and K-12 director of media/technology and other programs.  Currently, I am principal of West Carteret High School. I have also been the principal of Croatan High School and East Carteret High School.

I am/have been a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the North Carolina School Library Media Association, the North Carolina Association of Education and Communication Technology, the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association, The North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals Association, and the North Carolina Association of School Administrators. I was a member of the original advisory board for North Carolina Virtual Public School. For six years, I have served on the board of directors for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association and am currently past president of the Association.

I have witnessed the power of teams and technology to support and enhance teaching and learning. I am forever curious about such possibilities.  I am a proven collaborator, designer, presenter, writer, leader and innovator for effective change and continuous improvement in teaching/learning environments.

Charles W. O'Neal, Jr.

I started my education career in 2001 teaching 3rd grade in Rockingham County and coaching middle school soccer and volleyball.  After 7 years in the elementary school, gaining math certifications and a Masters in Math education, I moved to Rockingham County High School to teach math and coach varsity soccer and volleyball for 5 years.

In the summer of 2013, I moved my family to Carteret County, where I taught math at East Carteret High School and received a master’s in school administration.  In 2017, to have experience at all levels, I moved to Beaufort Middle School to teach 8th grade math and Math 1 and build their soccer program.  In January 2018, I accepted a position at WCHS as an Assistant Principal.  Looking forward to this upcoming year. Go Patriots!

I served the past three years at Broad Creek Middle School as the assistant principal.

I attended Virginia Tech, Lynchburg College and East Carolina University.  I have received a bachelor's of science in mathematics, a master's in school counseling, and a master's in school administration.  I earned my national board certification in 2007 and earned recertification in 2017.

I have been serving on the Carteret County Strategic Planning Committee for STEM Education for the past few years.  Additionally, throughout my tenure in education, I have served on the school leadership team; served as the lead high school counselor for the county PLC; sponsored student government and academic achievement; as well as coached track and cheerleading.
